Custom Built Doors And Entryways
Suitable for both interior and exterior use, our doors and entryways are constructed by highly qualified, experienced craftsmen who give individualized attention to every detail of the design. Although there are more than 30 standard styles from which to choose, our design flexibility provides almost unlimited custom capabilities. Especially suited for high-end residential and commercial uses, our doors and entryways are often chosen for churches and historical reproduction installations.
SDC doors are constructed of only the finest quality materials in a wide choice of wood species including Northeastern Pine, Red Oak, White Oak, Birch, White Hard Maple, Walnut, Poplar, South American Mahogany, Teak, Cherry, White Ash and other Special Sawn materials. Fabricated with dowel construction, Our standard procedure for exterior doors are using the stave core stile and rail with a ¼” face applied to both sides with a solid panel, rather than the veneered medex® or MDF that other manufactures use with a 1/16” veneer. SDC also uses Franklin Titebond III® waterproof glue to all doors. For doors requiring leaded or stained glass, Somerset designers can offer standard art glass designs, custom designs, and fabrication of the glass or the doors can be supplied without glass.
This is our standard manufacturing process for exterior doors, which makes the door dimensionally more stable, reducing expansion and contraction do to atmospheric conditions. Medex and MDF have a greater chance of delaminating, causing failure do to sunlight and moisture. Solid stile and Rails are not recommended because of tension in the wood grain that would cause dimensional instability.
SDC's custom doors can be ordered pre-hung and pre-machined if desired. They can be supplied pre-machined for hinges, pre-hung with no lockset pre-machining, or pre-hung and pre-machined for cylindrical or mortise type locks. A wide variety of locksets and hardware is available for all custom doors. Most door orders can be shipped directly to the job site for the convenience of the installer. Orders of 75 or more doors may require several shipments. For estimates, contact our sales department. Somerset provides a 1 year warranty on all doors, providing they are properly handled, installed and cared for. For more information, consult the Somerset Door Installation Procedures.
